That’s why we’ve put together a list of 5 things to do in Delavan before they go back to school.

#1 Dancing Horses Theatre and Animal Gardens Petting Zoo

If you’ve got animal lovers in your family, this is one attraction you cannot miss! Enjoy a dazzling show featuring choreographed equestrian artistry as the Dancing Horses Area comes to life with over twelve horses and their trainers. This award winning performance will have your jaw on the floor! After the show, head out to the petting zoo and meet fuzzy barnyard friends and exotic animals up close and personal.

Its no secret that Delavan is home to some of the best mexican food in the area! If your kiddos have a never-ending appetite, head out on a tour of all the Taco Shops in Delavan! Its Fall Y’all: Scarecrow Fest Returns to Delavan Saturday, September 18th 2021

It’s almost Fall, y’all! And you know what that means! The 21st Annual Scarecrow Fest is just around the corner! Join in on the free and festive fun Saturday, September 18th for a full day of fall activities for the whole family throughout historic Downtown Delavan!

This year’s Scarecrow Fest event will feature the ever popular Scarecrow Walk, free pumpkins, Walldog Mural tours, food trucks, DIY Scarecrow building workshops, sidewalk sales, market vendors, live music, and so much more, there’s sure to be something for everyone!

Scarecrow Walk

A Scarecrow Fest tradition lives on! Stroll the bricks streets and meet the Scarecrows built and decorated by local businesses and organizations. From kooky, to classic, to farm style favorites, the Scarecrow Walk is the highlight of the festival you will not want to miss. You can even vote for your favorite Scarecrows to earn their creators awards and prizes.

Family Activities

When we say ‘fun for the whole family’ we truly mean it! Get inspired by the Scarecrows lining the streets and purchase a DIY Scarecrow Kit to go and build your buddy at home. Kiddos can pick up a free pumpkin at the Pumpkin Patch. Embark on a Wallldog Mural Tour and learn more about Delavan’s unique history while completing a Scavenger Hunt perfect for all ages. Pose for a photo-op in front of an old fashioned pickup truck at the Aram Public Library. Ever wanted to hug a sheep or befriend a bearded dragon? Head to the Gee Funny Farm Petting Zoo at the Library throughout the afternoon and meet some new fuzzy friends.

Chow Down

With all the activity, your stomach will definitely be grumbling. Eat your way through Scarecrow Fest by visiting the many food trucks and vendors for a savory snack or a sweet treat. Enjoy offerings from the Isola.eats, Sandwich Sisters, The Mini Donut Truck, Taqueria La Estrella, and Pastries by Chad. Utiger’s Jewelry, the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and La Monarcha will also be selling burgers, brats, hotdogs, corn, baked potatoes, chili, and other refreshments! Can you say yum?!

Live Entertainment

No Downtown Delavan event could be complete without some live entertainment! The Scarecrow Fest lineup includes performances by The Sonic Boomers, Underground Sound Jazz, and Paulie and the Poor Boys. Pink Fraud will round out the festival with a free concert in the park at 7:00 pm at the Phoenix Park Bandshell and feature a laser light show by Laser Fusion.

Shop the Downtown

While you’re exploring Downtown Delavan, be sure to shop the craft and vendor market featuring over 50 unique crafters, artisans, home bakers, and small business owners. With products ranging from homegrown produce, handcrafted pottery, and uncommon finds, your new favorite treasures are sure to be found. Additionally, downtown businesses will be hosting sidewalk sales and Scarecrow Fest specials available for one day only!

Movies in the Park: Beethoven

Join Delavan Parks and Recreation for a movie in the park, Friday, July 30th. Beethoven will grace the cinema-sized screen in Darien West Park at sunset (approximately 8:45 pm). Be sure to pack your favorite movie snacks, lawn chairs, and cozy blankets to get comfy.

Swing Dancing Lessons & The Jack Farina Band

Your besties + wine + sunset tour of Delavan Lake = the best Saturday night ever. Climb aboard the Put on your dancing shoes and make your way to the Phoenix Park Bandshell on Friday, July 30th, for Swing Dancing Lessons and the Jack Farina Swing Dance Band! Try your hand at learning how to Charleston, chicken walk, and sock hop from the pros at Bell Danseuse Dance Academy from 6-6:45 pm. The 16-piece Jack Farina Swing Band will take the stage at 7pm and play all the big band era hits. See you at the Bandshell!

Sunset on the Patio: Alison Margaret

Another incredible Sunset on the Patio is on deck this weekend at Rosewood. This week’s featured artist is Alison Margaret! Freedom Floats

It’s no secret that we love the water here in Delavan! Take your Independence Day Celebrations to the lake! Deck out your pontoon in red, white, and blue and enter it in the Turtle Lake Tap & Grill 4th of July Boat Parade on July 3rd! Prizes will be awarded to the most patriotic, best decorated, and best themed watercraft!

Breakfast Delights and Patriotic Bites

The rumors are true! The Delavan Fire Department Breakfast at the Firehouse is back this 4th of July! Head to the firehouse for all you can eat pancakes, french toast, sausage, and beverages and support our local heroes. This year in addition to sit down service, you can take your breakfast to go via drive-up service. Pancakes anyone?

America on Parade

After your amazing pancake breakfast, make the short walk over to the historic brick streets of Walworth Avenue for the annual 4th of July Parade! See incredible floats, wave to the firemen, and celebrate as the parade marches towards Phoenix Park at 3pm. Be sure to get there early, as the best viewing spots fill up quickly.

Lakeside Pig Roast Picnic

Spend your 4th of July at Lake Lawn Resort. Festivities are in full swing at the resort and include a beach bash with the Caribbean Beach Bash and lawn games starting at 4pm. Once you’ve worked up an appetite after an intense game of cornhole, say aloha to your empty stomachs. Grab a plate at the Luau Pig Roast! Enjoy island style macaroni salad, mahi mahi, corn on the cob, roast pig, and Hawaiian style desserts.

Take it Easy Takes the Stage

There is nothing more American than country music and rock and roll. Celebrate freedom with a concert in the park featuring Take It Easy – A Tribute to The Eagles. From their debut Witchy Woman to their climactic #1 Hotel California, Take It Easy covers all the bases. The concert starts at 5pm.

Turn Your Eyes to the Skies for Fireworks

Red, White, and BOOM! Join the City of Delavan as they close out the city-wide celebration of freedom with 4th of July Fireworks. Prior to the show, honor our nation’s fallen heroes at the Flag Ceremony in the park. The show is set to begin just after dusk.

Food Truck Fridays return for another summer of deliciousness at Staller Estate Winery! Independence Day Celebration at Community Park

Independence Day celebrations begin this weekend here in Delavan! Let freedom ring and join the Friends of Community Park for the Independence Day Celebration, Saturday June 26th. Get a sneak peek at the brand new Water’s Edge Wedding and Conference Venue, grab a bite to eat from local food trucks, shop the craft and vendor fair, and bounce the day away on larger than life inflatables. Panfish Tournament Hosted by Lakeside Bait and Tackle

Grab your fishing poles and head to Lakeside Bait & Tackle for the Summer Panfish Tournament, Saturday June 12th! Grab your fishing buddy and hit the water to see who can catch the most Panfish between 7am and 2pm. Winners will take home a $500 cash prize and all participants will be entered to win the Grand Prize Drawing at the event’s close.
