Shake The Lake returns to the shores of Delavan Lake for 3 days of fun! The annual festival will feature a packed lineup of talented artists and tribute acts to get the crowd going. On top of the tunes, there will be plenty of food, drinks, and other activities. We’ve got your guide to all of the excitement!

Fun For All Ages

LLR_2610Saturday will feature additional activities for kids such as bubble soccer, human foosball, obstacle course inflatables, a rock climbing wall and much more!

If you’ve been looking for a way to prove that your cornhole skills are superior, look no further than the 4th Annual Walworth County Bags Championship. The competition will be taking place on the festival grounds at 4:00 pm. The top 3 teams will be awarded cash payouts as well as other great prizes! A special ticket purchase is necessary to enter into the competition and the deadline to register your team is Thursday, July 26th, 2019.

What’s a festival without delicious food and refreshing beverages? You can feast on a variety of concessions from the award-winning Lake Lawn Resort culinary team or even food trucks such as Joan’s Dogs and Lopez’s Anchor In. Whether you love beer or spirits (or both), Shake The Lake has got you covered with a selection of craft beverages.

The Craft Beverage Experience will feature local flavors from breweries and distilleries such as Lakefront Brewery, Geneva Lakes Brewing Company, Driftless Glen Distillery and more! There will be a full service bar with signature cocktails like the Hook, Line and Sinker Old Fashioned-Inspired Punch or a Cannonball Cherry Lemonade made with Door County infused cherry vodka. A variety of domestic and craft beers will also be available on tap.

The newest addition to Visit Delavan, Postscript Pub made it just in time to highlight their exceptional homemade Irish specials coming up this St. Patrick’s Day. Sky Circus on Ice : An Exquisite Winter Performance

Kites will bring colors to the ice this weekend, February 15th, 16th, & 17th, highlighting the best of the winter season in Delavan, Wisconsin. Sky Circus on Ice brings some of the greatest kite performers, snow sculptors and ice carvers to Delavan Lake for a weekend of fun and wonderment you will not want to miss!

Kites

LL_SkyCircus_9401Beginning on Saturday, kite performers and professionals hit the ice at 10:30 am to begin preparations to take these majestic giants to the sky at the Grand Kite Launch at noon. Hundreds of kites will take flight and paint the sky with familiar shapes and beautiful colors. Kite Teams will perform synchronized dances in the sky; acts from world renowned kite teams like Chicago Fire and Windjammers.

Feeling inspired? Let’s go fly a kite! Gift of Wings will be giving away free kites to the firstLL_SkyCircus_9205 100 kids that participate in the Kids Mad Dash at 2:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Parents, there’s no better time to teach your kids how to fly a kite, because there will be Free Kite Flying Lessons starting at 11 am both days, and kites will be available for sale during the event. For those already experienced kite flyers, be ambitious and make your own kite at the Kite Making Workshop ($4/per person) from 10 am – 4 pm, inside the Lake Lawn Room.

Snow Sculptures and Ice Carvings

LL_SkyCircus_9270In addition to the kite performances, snow sculptures and ice carvings will decorate the grounds of Lake Lawn as well as the brick street in historic downtown Delavan.

Watch these works of art take shape starting on Friday, February 15 and continue on display throughout the weekend. Make sure you see them all — catch the complimentary trolley to take you back and forth between the Lake Lawn lakefront and Downtown Delavan. Outdoor Fun

Or get that perfect picture as the little ones race down the Blizzard Slide Run along the Lakefront. For those of you wanting to cuddle and warm up at the end of the weekend, enjoy the free Family Night at the Movies, Sunday night at 6 pm and 7:30 pm. The Wings of Life & Flight of the Butterflies will be shown.

Let’s talk Turkey and Deer – Thanksgiving and Deer Widows’ Weekend

People always think that when the colder weather creeps up, everything slows down for the season. This could not be further from the truth in Delavan, WI! Although we do pack up our shorts and store the boats for the winter, November has a lot going on.

Deer Widows’ Weekend

The opening of the 2018 deer hunting season is November 17th. For hunters and non-hunters alike, this date means something… the start Deer Widows Weekend! Come hang out at Staller Estate Winery’s Ladies Day! Enjoy some wine, and have some fun crafting and painting wine glasses! Guys, as well as gals, can get a taste of autumn by sampling a selection of Sonoma Cellar’s favorites at their Autumn Getaway Tasting. Ladies get a special treat while their guys are away at Ol’ Wisco Bar & Grill’s Magic Mike show. A Las Vegas styled choreographed production, also doubling as a fundraiser/ pet food drive for Lakeland Animal Shelter!

Pre-Thanksgiving

Next week, the hunters will be back, and family members will be gathering as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. Collect the little ones and bring them to the Aram Public Library to learn more about Native Americans and the true history of the Thanksgiving at We’re the Same, but Different program on November 19th from 4 – 5 pm.  Kids will enjoy arts, dance, and culture shared by local Native Americans.

The library’s DIY Make and Take Holiday Pie class is a great way to enjoy family time and tackle some of the holiday prep on November 20 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. Your pie will be ready to bake at home or freeze to save for future events. Space is limited, so please call and check for availability at 262-728-3111. If the family is looking for something fun to do while waiting for the big meal, scoot out to the Delavan Lake Store and test your knowledge at their Pie & Music Trivia, on November 21st from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

Thanksgiving

Thursday is the big day! Some people start bright and early, getting side dishes, pies and of course the turkey set and ready to go in the oven just before the family begins to gather. For those who are visiting in Delavan this holiday or those who just don’t like to cook, you do not have to miss out!  

Enjoy a beautiful view of Delavan Lake while you indulge in Lake Lawn Resort’s annual Thanksgiving Day Feast buffet in the Frontier Restaurant. Or let Lake Lawn pack it up and take it home with Thanksgiving Made Easy – Lake Lawn Resort’s Dinner to Go! Reservations are required for both, so call now and let them help you plan your meal. To go orders must be placed by Monday, November 19, 2018.

If you follow the Delavan Lake shore line, another part of the community comes together to celebrate the things they are thankful for. They invite you to join them at Delavan’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner. The Town of Delavan Community Park pavilion will be open from 11 am to 3 pm serving complimentary meals to all guests and making deliveries to home bound friends. All they ask for is a donation to help continue this 10-year tradition into the following year. To setup deliveries to the home bound, please call (262) 749-4621.

Black Friday & Small Business Saturday

When Friday arrives, it’s time to hit the stores for all the deals of Black Friday and Small Business Saturday! On Friday, grab your coffee special, first, at the Delavan Lake Store for National Espresso Day. Then make a lap to check out the Black Friday Open House at The Amish Kitchen, located across the street from the new Fleet Farm. Saturday, the brick street of Historic Downtown will be lined with businesses full of deals for their Holiday Open House. No matter who is on your list, you will be able to find that perfect something. The Relative Recovery Bloody Mary Bar at Delavan Lake Store will close out the weekend of food and shopping perfectly, as you sort through your super shopping finds on Sunday.

Stuffed full of fun at Scarecrow Fest 2018!

 

 

If you have driven through Delavan lately, you have seen the scarecrows popping up on the light posts downtown. Scarecrow Fest is Delavan’s annual tradition that celebrates the beginning of the fall season with the best dressed scarecrows you ever did see! Scarecrows will be “On Parade” along the historic brick road through October hoping that you’ll vote for them as your favorite! Local business and citizens create each scarecrow with a theme and name…and I’ll tell ya, the creativity NEVER ceases to surprise me! Local merchants will join their scarecrow friends for special sidewalk sales and full fledge festivities on Saturday, September 15th, 2018.

SCF_Pumpkin-Painting-2014-300x225This festival spans along the brick road and into multiple parks throughout historic downtown Delavan. Begin at Water Tower Park for the craft fair & flea market, demos hosted by local businesses, food, and music by Cheryl Niemo & the Down Home Boys. Bring the kids to paint pumpkins, or say hello to the animals at the petting zoo at the Aram Public Library. A scarecrow festival would not be complete without making a scarecrow of your own! Build a Scarecrow and take it home. We’ll have the supplies to make a scarecrow and helpers. This is great for the whole family!

Other activities that you can take part in throughout the day are a narrated Walldog SCF_duck raffleWagon Tour, a pie and cake sale outside of Remember When, and the 3rd Annual Quilt Show throughout merchant store fronts. At 2:30pm, an endloader will dump the duckies into a pool for the pickin’ at the Duck Raffle. The rubber ducks that land in the middle of the circle of kiddy pools are drawn by the kids and the numbers are written down in order. The first matching ticket number wins the $150 cash, followed by other great prizes!! Tickets can be purchased 3 for $5 or $2 each.

As the grand finale for the Scarecrow Festival and the season at the Phoenix Park Bandshell, Andrew Sedlak will open for the infamous Pink Freud, harmonized with vibrant laser lights by the Laser Fusion Light Show.
